Babylon Town renames street in honor of late Amityville fire chief

|

This week a hero was immortalized in Amityville.

In Amityville, Babylon Town and community members gathered as a portion of Croydon Street between Albany Avenue and Great Neck Road was renamed in honor North Amityville Fire Company’s late chief, Daryll T. Rollins. That section will now be known as “Chief Daryll T. Rollins Way.”

Rollins, in his first year as the department’s chief, died in the line of duty after responding to a call this past November. It was his first year as the department’s chief and his 11th total year with the volunteer firehouse. He was 42.

“Chief Rollins was a dedicated member of both his community and his department who always strived to help others and do the right thing,” said Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer after the ceremony. “To see so many of his friends, family members and neighbors join us as we renamed this street in his honor is a testament to the impact that he had on those around him.

“Chief Rollins will be missed.”
