A large number of New Yorkers aren’t adhering to Gov. Andrew Cuomo guidelines for social distancing aiming to stop the spread of COVID-19, so the Village of Babylon has passed a new order to support the directive locally.
On Monday, Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scoridno signed an executive order giving Babylon Village Code Enforcement the authority to disperse any groups and activities that don’t coincide with the state and county’s regulations.
This includes no gatherings of 10-plus people in an area while being at a minimum of six feet between people.
“Gov. Cuomo is considering a plan to reduce gatherings of young people at parks throughout New York State as well and certainly once we receive that directive, we will be sharing that with our Village residents and guests,” said Scordino.
If you see anyone breaking these rules, the mayor urges residents to call code enforcement at 631-894-2949.
This isn’t the village’s first executive order since the health crisis. The mayor has also signed orders to suspend meter parking in the downtown as well as make all essential businesses that are running during the state’s shutdown to use curbside pickup and delivery only.
