Babylon Village’s annual gingerbread contest happens Dec. 22

|

This popular holiday activity is getting its own day in Babylon Village.

On Sunday, Dec. 22, the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual Gingerbread Decorating Contest. Typically this event happens during the village’s Dickens Winter Wonderland, which will not be running this year.

Instead, the chamber is moving the gingerbread contest indoors to the American Legion at 22 Grove Place, as well as running it in the morning to make it more family-friendly, say the event organizers.

The chamber is asking all the novelty creations to be pre-decorated and submitted at the start of the event.

The contest runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with judging beginning at noon.

For competitors, there will be four age groups: up to 6 years old, 7-12 years old, 12-17 years old, and 18 and up. Awards will be given to the top gingerbread houses.

“We love to see people’s creativity in the gingerbread houses they create,” said Kelly Peckholdt, head of the chamber.

In addition to the competition, there will be photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus, games, a DJ, and face painting.
