Babylon native Jake Carlock has excelled in football in every level he’s played—and now he is getting a shot at the pros.
Following the 2019 NFL Draft, the LIU Post product signed an undrafted free-agent contract with the New York Giants.
The 6-3, 225-pound cornerback inked the deal on Saturday night, following the three-day draft that was held in Nashville, Tenn.
“This has been a dream of mine since I first picked up a football,” Carlock told GreaterBabylon.
“Words can’t describe how excited I am,” added the lifelong Giants fan.
In his senior year as a Pioneer, Carlock led his team with 67 total tackles, while also posting four sacks, and two interceptions at the NCAA Division II level. The Stony Brook University transfer also swatted away 11 passes, and recovered three fumbles, earning him Northeast-10 Defensive Player.
Before college, he was a three-year starter at Babylon High School, where he was nabbed New York State Class C Co-Player of the Year, as well as USA Today All-State honors, among other awards.
During his junior and senior year, he helped lead his team to back-to-back undefeated seasons with two Long Island Class IV Championships in 2012 and 2013.
According to an interview with NFL Draft Diamonds, the South Shore resident is proud to have grown up in Babylon.
When asked what his favorite part of his hometown is, he responded with saying it’s “the people who live there.”
The hard-hitting defensive back will begin his NFL career on May 5, when the Giants host its rookie minicamp.
“I am more than ready to get there, learn and play ball,” said Carlock.
