The bagel shop next door to James Joyce Restaurant & Pub in Patchogue has permanently closed.
Hot Bagels Plus at 57 South Ocean Ave. is now gutted. The counter, refrigerator, display case and tables and chairs are gone.
A Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office notice on the door says that “these premises have been put in the possession of the landlord pursuant to a Court order. Only the landlord or his representatives may enter or remain.”
The storefront has had a bagel shop for more than 30 years, serving generations of locals.
In 2022, the bagel shop was among several Patchogue businesses that suffered damage during a vandalism spree in the village. The business had a window broken in June that year and operated for months with a boarded-up storefront.
Competition from Goldberg’s Famous Bagels, which opened in 2013 on Main Street near the Patchogue Theatre, hurt business at Hot Bagels Plus, local officials said.
