Barnes & Noble set to open new Commack store Aug. 5

Barnes & Noble will open a new bookstore in Commack on Wednesday, two years after closing a shop less than two miles away.

The new store, at Veterans Memorial Plaza, 58 Veterans Memorial Highway, will occupy the former Party City space near Michaels. It essentially replaces the Barnes & Noble that closed up the road on Jericho Turnpike in 2024.

The Commack location will span more than 10,000 square feet and carry books, toys, games, magazines and gift items.

Doors open to the public at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with local author Jen Calonita manning the scissors during ribbon-cutting, grand opening event, a Barnes & Noble spokesperson said. Calonita will sign copies of her book “Isle of Ever.”

Author Sarah Beth Durst will also sign copies of her newest release, “Sea of Charms.” The costume character Biscuit the Dog will host storytime events throughout opening weekend.

Commack is one of two Barnes & Noble stores opening on Wednesday, alongside a new location in Livingston, New Jersey. The company has opened 10 stores in New York over the past three years and expects to open an additional four locations by the end of the year.

“We are very pleased to open this beautiful new Barnes & Noble in Commack, one of two new bookstores we open today,” Barnes & Noble CEO James Daunt said in a statement. “To return a major bookstore to the Commack community after an absence of two years is a particular cause for celebration.”

Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards members will earn double stamps on purchases made at the Commack store from Aug. 5 through Aug. 9. Opening weekend visitors will also have access to deals including $50 off a Nook device and 40% off DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD movies, the company said.

Barnes & Noble, Inc. operates more than 700 bookstores across the United States.
