Bay Shore schools French teacher earns world language Teacher of the Year honor

Bay Shore Middle School French teacher Valerie Greer is the 2021 recipient of the Ruth E. Wasley World Language Teacher of the Year Award from the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT).

Greer has taught French for 24 years, presenting more than 35 conference sessions to share her knowledge with other teachers.

Named after a former NYSAFLT president who was a professor teacher/trainer of foreign language methodology at SUNY Albany, the Ruth E. Wasley World Language Teacher of the Year Award honors an educator who demonstrates excellence in the classroom and contributes to the foreign language profession.

The award pays tribute to those who emulate Wasley’s innovative and creative style and her legacy as an outstanding role model for students.

According to its website, NYSAFLT is dedicated to providing the foreign language teachers of New York state with professional development opportunities and promoting the study of foreign languages and cultures.
