Two sisters from Bay Shore have joined forces to open a blow dry bar called Blow Chic, which deals almost exclusively in washes and blowouts on West Main Street.
Lace Widrow, BSHS class of 2004, and Satin Widrow, BSHS Class of 2006, both worked in Manhattan — and both noticed all the popular blow dry bars in the city.
Yet there were relatively few on Long Island.
“I literally called my sister and said, Satin, we gotta open up one of these blow dry things!” laughed Lace, whose background is in makeup.
Blow Chic, which also offers makeup services and eyelash extensions, opened Wednesday, Sept. 20, at 32A West Main Street, across from the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts.
‘We have a lot of fabulous salons around here,” said Satin Widrow, whose background is in professional sports events and marketing. “But the truth is, unless you’re getting a cut or a color, it’s harder to find something around for a woman on the go with last-minute plans, or who just needs a refresher.”
Here’s how it works: For prices starting at $30, clients can head to Blow Chic (even without an appointment) for a blowout and styling — either before a special event or for the beginning of the work week.
The typical blowout will take between 25 and 45 minutes. And the styles last up to five days, provided you don’t get your hair wet.
There are six stylists who work at Blow Chic, and they are all trained in the art.
“A lot of people think blowing out hair is simple, but that’s not really true,” said Satin. “It might look simple, but not a lot of people can do it.”
