Sunday dinner on Fire Island is about to get a whole lot better.
Italian grocer Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace has just announced Uncle G’s Ocean Beach Popup is headed to the barrier beach this summer starting May 9.
The market will be stocked with the brand’s signature cheeses, fresh pastas and sauces, sandwiches, antipasto platters, fully prepared meals and more, the announcement reads.
“We’ve always believed in bringing Uncle G’s to where our guests are — and Fire Island is such a special place for so many of them,” said Carl DelPrete, CEO of Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace.
The Uncle G’s popup will be located within Ocean Beach Trading at 476 Bayberry Walk on Ocean Beach.
“I’m thrilled to be carrying Uncle Giuseppe’s products in our store,” said Evan Brett, owner of Ocean Beach Trading. “My family has been shopping at Uncle G’s for years, and I’ve always admired the quality and warmth they bring to the grocery experience.
“Having them here in Ocean Beach is a perfect fit; they are fresh and flavorful and are exactly what our community wants for the summer.”
Uncle Giuseppe’s is already a frequent deliverer of groceries and catered food to Fire Island. So the idea for a summer-long presence was a natural evolution.
“This popup is our way of planting roots in a community that has embraced us with open arms, and giving beachgoers an easy way to enjoy the same fresh, quality food they love — right here on the island,” DelPrete added.
The summer market will be open every day of the week.
Fire Island residents and extended-stay visitors will also still be able to enjoy ferry delivery service to any terminal on the island through uncleg.com.
Uncle Giuseppe’s, which started with a single unit in East Meadow and now operates 11 locations across New York and New Jersey, has been in expansion mode as of late.
Recent announcements include plans to take over a former Stop & Shop location in Greenvale, with a Bohemia location already in the works at Sayville Plaza, in the former Babies “R” Us space at 5181 Sunrise Highway. That location should be open by late 2025.
The company also opened a store in Tinton Falls, N.J., in 2023.
