Debbie Fuentes of the Bay Shore School District was recognized last month as a Teacher of Excellence by state Senator Phil Boyle.
Fuentes teaches at Brook Avenue School. In addition to her work with her dual language second grade students, she serves as a literacy coach.
She also assists with many ENL initiatives across the district and helps to train her colleagues on best practices for ELL students, according to the district.
Boyle hosted the ceremony at the Bay Shore Fire Department.
In total, 16 outstanding educators and school professional were recognized, people “who have dedicated their lives to teaching and helping their students learn, thrive, and reach their fullest potential,” Boyle said.
“Our school communities are so very fortunate to have such passionate educators,” he said.
