Bay Shore’s Talani Barnett earns Big Ten award at Ohio State

|

Bay Shore’s Talani Barnett has made a name for herself on the women’s soccer team for Ohio State University.

The highly touted midfielder, who had two goals and two assists in her first year as a Buckeye, was named to the Big Ten All-Freshmen team for her performance this season.

“Talani has come in and been very flexible to play anywhere on the field her team has needed,” said OSU head coach Lori Walker-Hock. “She has learned the importance of the fitness required to play a high-press, attacking style of soccer. It has been fun to watch her grow as a person and soccer player and I’m proud of her for earning this recognition.”

She played in 16 of 18 games this year, helping her team to a 9-5-4 record. One of her season highlights includes scoring a game-winning goal against Iowa.

Everyone back home was rooting for her, including her high school.

“We are excited, but not surprised, to hear that Talani Barnett has been named to the All-Freshman team representing Ohio State,” said Bay Shore Schools Athletic Director Bob Panariello.  “In Bay Shore, we have known that Talani is an exceptional athlete with the ability to have a positive impact on any team she is a part of.

At Bay Shore High School, Barnett was a four-year starter, where she was three-time All-County, All-Conference, and All-League. She also was a 2017 United Soccer Coaches All-American and All-Long Island.

“We are proud to see yet another Marauder continuing our legacy of excellence after graduation,” said Panariello.
