The fourth and final “Summer Sunday” event is this weekend in Babylon Village and this Sunday is all about health, wellness, and self-care.
“Wellness in the Village” is the theme for the final street event, with restaurants set up for outdoor dining, merchants for shopping, and wellness-related vendors are joining in.
The event runs from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Deer Park Avenue. The street will be closed from Main Street to Park Avenue.
Good Samaritan Hospital is providing health screening services and other businesses are hosting outdoor fitness classes for those who want to try them out.
“Walk with a Doc” starts at 1 p.m. at the Conklin House, which is a collaboration between the New York Coalition for Transportation Safety(NYCTS) and the Long Island Health Collaborative (LIHC).
A doctor will briefly discuss the various health benefits of walking before leading attendees on a walk through Babylon Village. Here’s the link to register.
A few downtown businesses are hosting strength contests too, here’s a list:
- Mary Carrolls will have a beer stein holding competition at 6 p.m.
- Elevation Fitness plans to have either a pull-ups or air bike station at their booth during the event.
- Test your push-up skills at the Army table.
- Kilwins will have their hi-striker game outside.
- Those who participate in any of these contests earn a raffle ticket they can enter to win a prize basket from some of the merchants.
There is also a lineup of fitness classes throughout the day for $5 and all proceeds go towards the Babylon Village Chamber of Commerce to support our local businesses.
Here’s the schedule for classes:
- 12:30-1:30 p.m. bodyART NYC and Positions Dance Studio are hosting a physical-therapy-based approach to movement.
- 2:00-3:00 p.m. Yoga Class taught by Long Island Center for Yoga
- 3:30-4:30 p.m. Kettlebell and Intervel Training hosted by Elevation Fitness
