Bellport’s Alex Vargas secures win in main event fight at The Paramount

|

El Toro’s undefeated run continues.

Alex Vargas, the Bellport boxer, improved to 11-0 after defeating Alejandro Munera (6-3-4) by unanimous decision Saturday night at The Paramount in Huntington.

Varga-Munera was the main event on Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing “Rockin’ Fights” 39 fight card. The two were promoted from co-main fight after the scheduled main event between Shirley native Cletus “The Hebrew Hammer” Seldin and Victor Vazquez was canceled due to a medical issue for Vazquez.

“It was great to be back in front of my people again,” said Vargas, whose fans were raining down “Let’s go Vargas” chants throughout his six-round bout.

The judges scored the fight 60-54 in favor of Vargas, a southpaw fighter.

This was his first fight in New York since February of 2020 due to the pandemic. He’s fought four times in Florida in the meanwhile.

“I’ve met so many new people fighting in the pandemic, but it was great to be home fighting in front of my fans,” he said following his victory.
