House of India in Huntington turned out the lights for the final time Sunday, serving its last meals before closing for good after 23 years in business.
The Main Street restaurant — highly regarded for its modern take on classic Indian dishes — announced the shut down earlier in the day.
“It is with a heavy heart we are announcing the closing of House of India. The family is retiring from the business and moving on to other projects,” management said in an Instagram post. “We appreciate our patrons turned family over the last 23+ years.
“The Huntington Community has given us love, acceptance, and business throughout House of India’s lifetime and we are forever grateful,” the post continued. “Today is our last day in business, so please stop by as we would love to see you!”
House of India was owned by Sukhdev Singh, who also operated Tava Fine Indian Cuisine in Glen Cove. Tava closed earlier this year; it had opened in November 2021.
The Singh family still owns Mango Indian Cuisine on Merrick Road in Bellmore, where it serves northern Indian cuisine.
“Happy for your retirement but sad to see you go. You guys were my “go-to” Indian food spot, and we will be missing you,” commented one of the many saddened customers. “Best wishes on your future plans. 🙏🏼”
