Long Islanders sure love to eat, shop and play in Sayville.
Consider that a whopping 30 businesses in Sayville and West Sayville have been nominated for 51 awards in the 2021 Bethpage Best of Long Island Awards contest.
What’s more is that downtown Sayville is in the running for best downtown on Long Island.
“It’s such an honor to have Sayville nominated under the Shopping Category as Best Downtown, especially after COVID shut us down for so long,” Greater Sayville Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Tyznar said. “To see our community and our visitors appreciate and support us continually is so humbling.”
Tyznar and the chamber have spearheaded the ongoing effort to help area businesses hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, including raising more than $23,000 through the Greater Sayville Small Business Relief Fund. TD Bank in August honored Tyznar for her leadership during the panademic.
Tyznar said the high number of Best of Long Island nominations is a testament to the business community’s resiliency.

The massive list of nominees includes Hammer & Stain, which opened in Sayville last year and was nominated for best Ceramic Art Studio; a best Boss nomination for James Caporuscio, owner of Café Joelle; four nominations each for Claws and Off the Block Kitchen and Meats; and three nominations each for The Shed, Sayville Ford and TOA Asian Fusion.
Voting is open to the public and runs from Oct. 1 to Dec. 15. Individuals can vote once per day in as many categories as they wish.
