The BlackSheep in Miller Place has closed, restaurant for sale

The BlackSheep, the short-lived Miller Place restaurant that promised diners to “eat unique,” has closed.

There was no formal announcement from ownership. But when customers asked on social media in recent weeks whether the restaurant was open or closed, Black Sheep’s Instagram account replied that it was closed and apologized for the inconvenience.

A sign has since gone up on the building at 465 Route 25A in the Park Avenue Plaza advertising a restaurant for sale, listing a restaurant broker Bob Damon at 516.551.3302.

Inside, the restaurant still looks ready for service. Tables remain set, with salt, pepper and ketchup left out, even though the doors have been shut for a couple of weeks.

The BlackSheep took over the space from Maggie’s Eatery, which closed after a short run in the space in April 2025.

Black Sheep owner Jon Kopstein, a Port Jefferson resident and longtime restaurant industry veteran who had worked as a sous chef at Maggie’s, opened the BlackSheep in June 2025 with an American fusion menu and a “black sheep” art theme built around the community and local school districts, Greater Long Island reported at the time.

It’s unclear what led to the closure slightly longer than a year in business.
