Blue Point director’s film starring the late Danny Aiello opens LI International Film Expo tonight

|

The locally filmed movie “One Moment” — showcasing the final performance of Hollywood icon Danny Aiello — kicks off the 24th annual Long Island International Film Expo tonight in Bellmore.

The 6:30 p.m. in-person screening at the historic Bellmore Movies is sold out. Following the screening, there will be Q&A session with “One Moment” writer, director and producer Deirdre O’Connor of Blue Point and several cast members.

After drawing on some of her own family’s experiences to conceptualize the script for the movie, O’Connor filmed every scene of “One Moment” on Long Island. Most of the film was shot in Sayville, Blue Point or Patchogue.

O’Connor successfully recruited Aiello for the lead role of Joe McGuiness, a recently widowed Irish and Italian father of four 40-something adults. McGuinness struggles with forgetfulness and losing his independence, while his children scramble to care for him and still look after their own families.

Aiello, 86, who died in December 2019 two months after filming was complete, was posthumously awarded Best Actor at the 15th annual Beaufort International Film Festival in South Carolina in March. “One Moment” earned the Best Comedy award at the same festival.

The Long Island International Film Expo runs through Sunday at the Bellmore Movies. Click here for a complete schedule of live and virtual screenings.
