A ‘suspicious activity’ call in Huntington leads cops to find human remains in suitcase

|

A disturbing discovery was made this morning in Huntington.

Human remains were found in a suitcase in a wooded area beside a roadway, just outside an apartment building at 320 Nassau Road, Suffolk police confirmed.

Authorities found the body around noon after receiving a 911 call reporting “suspicious activity” in the area. Upon arrival, Second Precinct officers found the remains inside the suitcase.

A local resident made the emergency call after coming across the suitcase.

“I was taking a walk and I just, I smelled something,” the resident, who went by Taylor, told News 12. “I saw a whole bunch of flies. I had looked over and I saw the suitcase. So then I called it in, I was like I’d rather be safe than sorry. This is out of the ordinary. This is not normal.”

Police said the body has since been taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the identity and cause of death. It is currently unclear to the public the age or whether the person was male or female.

This is still an ongoing investigation, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
