Breeze Airways begins flights from Long Island to Vero Beach

|

Tickets are still available for Breeze Airways inaugural flight to Vero Beach this evening out of Long Island MacArthur Airport.

The upstart airlines’ maiden three-hour flight to the seaside Florida town takes off at 6:20 p.m. Breeze Airways will fly twice weekly to Vero Beach from Islip.

The flights are scheduled to take off at 6:20 p.m. on Thursdays and Sundays. Return flights from Vero Beach are also on Thursdays and Sundays, at 3 p.m.

Breeze officials said one-way fares run as low as $69 and that the non-stop service will continue through April.

Breeze will fly the route with the Airbus 220, which offers Breeze’s self-styled “Nice,” “Nicer,” and “Nicest” tiered seating.

Whether service is extended beyond that will depend on how popular the flights become, said Jim Smith, co-founder and vice president for corporate real estate – airport development.

“It’s clear how fond of visiting Florida that Long Islanders are, all year round. Especially in the winter,” Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter said in October. “Vero is an incredible destination, and in proximity are so many more areas that are popular with Long Islanders.”

Vero Beach is Breeze’s seventh destination out of Long Island. It also provides non-stop flight service to Charleston, South Carolina; Norfolk, Viriginia; Pittsburgh, Richmond, Virginia; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; and Portland, Maine.

Travelers can now fly non-stop out of MacArthur Airport to 14 destinations on three different carriers.
