Trump backs Blakeman for governor, praises ICE work, MAGA loyalty

Bruce Blakeman will never let you down.

So says President Donald Trump, who on Saturday endorsed the two-term Nassau County executive for governor of New York in a post on Truth Social.

Trump called Blakeman “highly respected and very popular” and described him as “MAGA all the way,” noting that he has supported the former president “from the very beginning.” The post highlighted Blakeman’s alignment with Trump’s priorities, including law enforcement, border security, and Second Amendment protections.

The endorsement comes as Blakeman has backed some of Trump’s most controversial measures, particularly efforts to increase the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Long Island communities.

Trump’s post credited Blakeman with working “tirelessly with the Brave Heroes of ICE, Border Patrol, and Law Enforcement to Keep Our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Safeguard our Community, and Ensure LAW AND ORDER.”

Blakeman, re-elected for a second term in November, has also promoted policies aimed at economic growth, tax cuts, and American energy production.

U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, seen as an early front‑runner and a prominent national Republican figure, announced she was ending her bid for governor and won’t run for re‑election to the House — a decision that removes a high‑profile rival from the GOP primary and boosts Blakeman’s status as the leading Republican contender.

Gov. Kathy Hochul is seeking re‑election in 2026 and remains the likely Democratic nominee

Trump rains down praise on Blakeman

“Bruce will continue to fight hard to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes, and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Champion American Energy DOMINANCE, Strengthen our Military/Veterans, Advance Election Integrity, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment!” Trump says in his post.

The Nassau County executive has previously drawn national attention alongside Trump. In March 2024, he was seen holding an umbrella over the then-former president Trump at the funeral of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, a Massapequa officer murdered in the line of duty, shielding Trump from rain as he spoke outside the funeral home.

Trump concluded his post on Saturday with a ringing endorsement of the county executive.

“Bruce Blakeman is a FANTASTIC guy, will win the big November Election and, without hesitation, has my Complete and Total Endorsement for Governor of the ONCE GREAT STATE OF NEW YORK (IT CAN BE GREAT AGAIN!),” the president wrote. “BRUCE BLAKEMAN WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
