Candy cane alert: Blue Point’s ‘Santa Run’ is Dec. 19

|

It’s still on.

A scaled back version of the Blue Point Fire Department’s annual Santa Run through town is scheduled for later this month.

The Dec. 19 event, modified this year in accordance with safety precautions and regulations related to COVID-19, starts at noon.

Santa Claus will ride through town on a fire truck, saying hello to children young and old, while giving out candy canes to the kids in a safe manner, the fire department said.

The department further noted that the fire truck escorting Santa will not travel down dead-end streets, and encouraged people living on those streets to get to the nearest cross street to see Santa.

Traditionally, Santa and the fire department invite children to a holiday breakfast, where there’s an opportunity to have pictures taken with Santa. But the breakfast event is cancelled, and Santa will not be able to pose for photos with children.

As in years past, the fire department is accepting donations of non-perishable food items during the event.
