There’s a new place to grab a burger and a brew near the beach on the west end of Long Beach.
Canz, the popular sports bar and grill with locations in Westbury and Bohemia, just opened its third spot — this one at 777 W. Beech St.
The new location takes over the space that was previously home to Seven, an Italian restaurant.
“We want this to be a place for families to come and have a good meal,” co-owner Tori Linscott told Greater Long Island. “It’s all about the community — that’s very important to us.”
Linscott said she’s aware that the name “Canz” might give people the wrong impression, especially those who remember the brand under previous ownership.
“So many people have said to me, oh, it sounds like it’s another Hooters,” she said. “But we are so far from that. One of the first things we did when we took over in 2014 was change the way the staff dressed. When I was an employee here, it used to be tank tops, shorts, tall socks and boots. That’s not how it is anymore.”
Instead, she and her business partner Paul Pastier are focused on great service, weekly community events and what they describe as elevated bar food.
That includes menu items exclusive to the Long Beach location, like pan-seared bronzino (served over sautéed spinach, roasted potatoes and tomatoes in a lemon butter sauce), seafood Risotto and ribeye steak.
“We’ve tailored the menu to the community, in addition to offering traditional bar food,” Linscott said.
As for drinks, there’s no shortage of options.
“We have 14 beers on tap, to go along with the cans — since our concept is canned beer,” she said. “We focus on craft beer, local breweries. We want to introduce those hometown brewers to the towns we’re in.”
Long Beach is also the only Canz location with a private, 100-person party room available for rent.
Canz Long Beach is open Wednesday through Sunday, to start.
The other two Long Island locations are open seven days a week.
