Suffolk County Police are investigating a carbon monoxide leak that seriously injured two people and sent eight others to hospitals from a multifamily home in Brentwood early Thursday morning.
Officers from Suffolk Police’s Third Precinct responded to 150 American Blvd. at 7:05 a.m. after a 911 caller reported a sick resident. When the cops arrived, they found 10 people suffering from symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Investigators later determined the source of the leak was a malfunctioning oil burner.
An 87-year-old man was taken to John T. Mather Memorial Hospital in Port Jefferson with serious injuries. An ambulance transported his 52-year-old son to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow; he is also in serious condition, police said.
The eight other residents — ranging in age from 10 to 42 — were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
