A physical education teacher at Centerport’s Washington Drive Primary School was recently named Suffolk Zone Elementary PE Teacher of the Year by the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
Carrie Miller received the award, the only such accolade given annually to an elementary school gym teacher in Suffolk County.
“We are so proud of Carrie and all she does for our students,” said Rob Franco, Harborfields Central School District’s director of health, physical education and athletics. “We couldn’t think of a more deserving person, and our students are lucky to have her.”
Miller is one of seven Suffolk Zone Award recipients. Listed below are the others:
- Colleen McKillop, Smithtown ~ Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year
- Alaina Bennett, Connetquot ~ High School Health Education Teacher of the Year
- Jennifer Champagne, Suffolk CC & Nassau CC ~ Higher Education Teacher of the Year
- Darren Phillips, Southampton ~ Physical Education Director Recognition Award
