Chamber’s spring fair among latest event cancellations due to Covid-19

The Chamber of Commerce of the Moriches announced that it has canceled its annual spring fair set for June 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a message sent to members, spring fair chairperson Gerry Sapanaro said the group is also “not yet sure” about the chamber’s fall fair. Both events are usually held along Main Street in downtown Center Moriches.

The news follows the cancellation of the Tri-Hamlet Community Day Celebration and the Pattersquash Creek Civic Association’s annual Harvest Festival.

“As there is more risk than reward, I think it prudent to put the safety of our members and residents first and NOT plan for a September event of any kind,” said PCCA president Frank Fugarino.

This is the second year in a row that Tri-Hamlet Community Day has been canceled following lower turnout in recent years. At that time, organizers decided to regroup and to drum up interest.

“We will try again for next year…,” a note said on its Facebook page.
