Chip City is expanding on Long Island with three new locations

|

The cult favorite cookie haven Chip City is expanding its Long Island footprint.

The company, which last year opened stores in Oceanside followed by Garden City, announced three new locations on tap for Long Island in 2023.

It looks like a Merrick location will open on Merrick Road in June, followed by Jericho Turnpike in East Northport in July, with a date that’s to-be-determined for Deer Park Avenue in North Babylon.

“We are very excited to expand into Long Island,” said Theodore Gailas, who co-founded the company. “We chose these locations because they are consistent with the communities that our existing locations serve.”

Gailas and partner Peter Phillips grew the chain from one small shop in Astoria to what today is 18, mostly located in the boroughs, along with three in New Jersey.

“It kind of just grew into this project where we were creating these fun nostalgic flavors,” Gailas previously told Greater Long Island. “And as we were opening on the weekends just for a few hours a day, we had these lines down the block. People were waiting up to an hour to get in and get some cookies. Slowly but surely it evolved.”

Chip City’s growth last year caught the attention of industry leaders, with none other than Danny Meyer, the founder of Shake Shack, investing a whopping $10 million into the enterprise, according to an October 2022 article in Forbes.

To the Chip City faithful already in the NYC and Long Island area, Gailas tells us there’s a sweet surprise in the works as well.

“We are introducing a new offering at many of our existing locations as well as the upcoming Long Island locations,” he said. “Customers will have the option to add a scoop of ice cream to their warm gooey cookies.”

In addition to the Long Island expansion, Chip City has plans for yet another Manhattan spot, along with its first Bronx store for 2023, Gailas said. There are currently none on Staten Island.

If you go

Some of Chip City’s most popular flavors are chocolate chip, s’mores, cookies n’ cream, and a variety of signature filled cookies, according to Gailas, so those are a good place to start. Popular filled cookies include peanut butter & jelly, oatmeal apple pie, Nutella sea salt, and blueberry cheesecake, he said. Follow greaterlongisland.com for updates, or Chip City on Instagram.
