Chipotle to take over former American Roadside site in Smithtown

|

Something’s sizzling at the old American Roadside in Smithtown.

The former burger joint at 80 E. Main St. is set to become a Chipotle Mexican Grill, according to new signage hanging from the façade.

The sign reads: “Get hungry. Coming soon!”

It’s not yet clear when the Tex-Mex chain plans to open. Greater Long Island has reached out for more information. Check back for updates.

The prominent Main Street space has been vacant since American Roadside closed three years ago. The spot was known for its burger lineup — and for its Roadstar challenge, which tasked diners with finishing a four-patty stack to earn a T-shirt and a place on the wall of fame.

This is one of several moves Chipotle is making across Long Island. The company is also opening a location carved out of the former Long Beach Cinemas site at Park Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard.

Founded in Denver in 1993, Chipotle has grown into one of the country’s largest fast-casual chains, known for its build-your-own burritos, tacos and salads. The company operates more than 3,800 restaurants nationwide, including 36 across Long Island.
