From decadent waffles to a cascading chocolate fountain, Chocolate House has brought its over-the-top dessert experience to Bethpage with its first Long Island location.
The fast-growing dessert chain recently opened at 597 Hicksville Road, in the former Dunkin’ space, and is already drawing crowds with its indulgent sweets and café-style atmosphere.
“It’s a dessert palace, specializing in all things covered in chocolate,” said Malik Asad, one of the brothers behind the brand. “We have everything from waffles on a stick and crepes to milkshakes, sundaes and lava cakes.”
Signature treats include the “Peanut Butter Lovers,” served on a freshly made waffle or crepe and topped with milk chocolate, Reese’s Pieces, two Reese’s peanut butter cups and Reese’s sauce. Another popular option, the “Lotus,” features crushed Lotus cookies, Lotus butter, bananas and a white chocolate drizzle.
Customers can also create their own dessert, choosing from more than 40 toppings and mix-ins.
“Our most popular items over the last several months have been anything with Dubai chocolate,” Asad told Greater Long Island. “It’s the newest trend, so we started a whole category just for that.”
While chocolate is the star of the menu, Asad said he was intentional about offering options for everyone.
“You can still come here and get non-chocolate items,” he said. “We have pistachio, Biscoff, Fruity Pebbles, matcha, refreshers and lattes. It’s a diverse menu to fit everyone’s liking.”
Asad’s journey to opening Chocolate House didn’t originally point toward desserts.
“I was actually a finance major in college, and my plan was to get a job on Wall Street,” he said. “But after I graduated from NYIT in 2021, I went to Paris and fell in love with the crepes sold on street carts — similar to hot dog carts here in NYC. I tried recreating them when I got home and thought, maybe I should do this here, add waffles and milkshakes, and make it all chocolatey. Everything I love.”
Even the name of the business came after careful consideration.
“Coming up with the name was actually the hardest part,” Asad recalled. “I was overthinking it at first, but then I realized keeping it simple was best. I couldn’t call it ‘Chocolate Factory’ because Willy Wonka already took that one. ‘House’ felt perfect — it’s where people come together to hang out and spend quality time.”
Community involvement is also a priority for Chocolate House.
“We always want to get involved,” Asad said. “We sponsor youth teams in all the different areas we’re in. I want to help the people who help us stay in business. We also thank our first responders with 15% off, seven days a week.”
Inside the shop, one feature has quickly become a fan favorite.
“People absolutely love the chocolate fountain in front,” Asad said with a smile. “They always ask if they can stick their finger in it for a taste. I say sure — but then I’m going to have to throw the whole thing away.”
Chocolate House is currently open seven days a week from 2 p.m. to midnight. A grand opening celebration is expected within the next month, after which Asad said the shop will likely begin opening earlier in the day.
