It was a hit before the first slice of meat was ever laid down for a sandwich.
Fans of the popular Medford butcher shop Chubs Meats lined up at the owner’s newest venture, Chubs Burgers, Burritos, and Heroes Co., Thursday morning right before its soft opening.
“We already have eight orders,” Chubs owner Ryan Jones told GreaterPatchogue at 9:51 a.m., exactly nine minutes before officially flipping the open sign on at his new Farmingville location.
Over this year, Jones and his family invested many hours into transforming the former Moller’s Sandwich Shop at 625 Horseblock Road into their own dream shop.
“This was a fun concept to be a part of and create,” Jones wrote on Facebook. “Thank you all again for your support.”
As the name states, Chubs Burgers, Burritos, and Heroes Co. offers a variety of to-go options. The menu consists of signature heroes and burritos, a build-your-own burger section, as well as wraps and salads.
There are several Boars Head and store-made cold cut sandwiches that are piled high with generous portions on locally made bread. For instance, The American Dream was a head-turner at the opening as it’s stacked with prime roast beef, turkey breast, ham, American cheese, with lettuce and tomato.
Another instant favorite is The Tornado, a hero comprised of fried chicken cutlets, bacon, melted American cheese, coleslaw, topped with Thousand Island dressing.
“I ordered two,” said Mike Spera, an NYPD detective who lives in Holtstivlle. “I am going to take one to work, and eat one now.”
Spera, like many others on Thursday morning, were frequenters of Chubs Meats beforehand.
“The butcher shop is phenomenal, absolutely delicious,” he said. “I live down the block from here and was super excited for it to open.”
