Civil Rights on Long Island author Christopher Verga will be signing his books May 20

|

The author of Arcadia Publishing’s Images of America book, Civil Rights on Long Island, will be hosting a special book signing Saturday, May 20, at the Barnes & Noble on Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore.

Verga is also a columnist for the greaterlongisland.com websites, contributing often with history pieces from across the South Shore in Suffolk County, from Amityville to Patchogue.

“The Civil Rights on Long Island book highlights the forgotten chapter of racial struggles in suburban Long Island,” Verga said. “The pages of the Civil Rights on Long Island stand as a reminder of what we have accomplished and what we still need to accomplish as an increasingly diverse suburb.”

Barnes and Noble is located at 842 Sunrise Highway in Bay Shore. The store is hosting an all-day book fair, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

At noon, Verga will be available to sign copies of Civil Rights on Long Island book.

He and a co-author, Neil Buffett, will also be signing their new Images of America book, Bay Shore, which hit store shelves in April. At 4:30 p.m. they will be hosting a discussion about Bay Shore’s history.

Both are history professors at Suffolk County Community College.

Verga has been busy this past year, visiting libraries across the island, including the South Country Public Library in Bellport this winter, to discuss his debut book.
