Parker, who also serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of the Bellport Area, was elected by the rest of the board members and joined them immediately, hospital officials announced last week.

“The board set out to bring new expertise and talent to the oversight of our community hospital and Clyde Parker exemplifies all that we hoped to achieve through our search,” Lisa Rose, who chair’s the hospital’s board, said in a statement announcing the news.

Parker is described as an “independent business consultant with clients in markets throughout the U.S. and Germany,” who specializes in growing revenues for retail operations and who lists Barney’s and Saks Fifth Avenue as former employers on LinkedIn.

The news comes as Brookhaven Memorial is in the midst of building a $60 million cardiac care center and has bid to purchase the former John J. Foley Nursing Home building in Yaphank from Suffolk County.

“These are exciting times for Brookhaven and I am extremely proud to join this dedicated board of directors,” Parker said. “I look forward to supporting the realization of the hospital’s immediate and long term goals in the delivery of healthcare to the over 370,000 Suffolk County residents served.”
