Community raises $105K for Bayport-Blue Point teacher after husband’s sudden death

Hundreds of donors have contributed over $105,000 to a GoFundMe campaign in just three days to support the family of Keith Rang, a Blue Point volunteer and father who died suddenly Tuesday.

Rang leaves behind his wife, Kristen, a third-grade teacher in the Bayport-Blue Point School District, and their three children, who attend BBP schools. A GoFundMe organized by Jacqueline Noon is raising funds to help cover immediate living expenses and support the children as they adjust to life without their dad.

The family is well known and deeply embedded in the Bayport-Blue Point community. Keith and Kristen are described as devoted participants in youth sports, school events and community activities.

“Kristen and Keith are dedicated BBP community members and parents,” the Families of Blue Point Elementary School wrote in a Facebook post. “From coaching youth sports to showing up for every local event, they have dedicated years to lifting up and inspiring BBP children and families.”

The elementary school’s 5th Grade Committee announced it is donating all remaining surplus funds from a prior fundraiser — along with 100 percent of the proceeds from a commemorative spirit wear sale — directly to the Rang family. The group is asking the broader community to purchase spirit wear and share the campaign widely.

“Let’s wrap this family in the love, strength, and unwavering commitment that defines Bayport-Blue Point,” the post read.
