Community raising money for Port Jeff family following tragic accident

The Port Jefferson Station community is coming together to raise money for a local family that’s just been struck by tragedy.

Sisters Alyssa and Jenna Batista were involved in a car accident on Oct. 17; Alyssa passed away in the crash, while Jenna remains in critical condition in the hospital after suffering multiple injuries.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in memory of Alyssa and to provide support to Jenna on her road to recovery.

“At a time like this it is important for friends, family, and our community to join together,” said Maria Elena Lorandini, organizer of the fundraiser. “The Batista family is a loving and caring family within the community…this family has suffered the terrible loss of their beloved daughter and need strength and prayers for the days that come ahead.”

So far, donors have raised $58,460, surpassing the fundraiser’s $50,000 goal.

All proceeds go directly to the Batista family.
