Friends, neighbors and co-workers are rallying to support a Setauket mother and her two boys following the sudden death of her husband and the children’s 51-year-old father.
Scott Donovan, remembered as a devoted dad and husband, died on Friday, Dec. 19. He is being revered as a loyal man who “lived for his family” and was deeply involved in his sons’ lives, from cheering at sporting events to building Pinewood Derby cars and spending time fishing on the water.
Friends described him as generous, outgoing and having a great sense of humor, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Fundraiser for the Donovans
A GoFundMe campaign titled “Honoring Scott: Standing with Michelle & Her Boys” was created six days ago by Keri Chiappino of Stony Brook.
The fundraiser has raised nearly $38,000 through more than 200 donations. Proceeds will help the family cover daily expenses and other costs in wake of Donovan’s death.
“Losing Scott has left an unimaginable hole in this family’s world — a loss made even heavier as Michelle and the boys face this grief during the Christmas season, when his presence would have meant everything,” reads the description of the GoFundMe. “The Donovan family has always been the kind of family who shows up for others, offering help, kindness, and support whenever it was needed.
“Now it is our turn to wrap Michelle, Brady, and Alex in that same love and support,” it continued.
Great company

“Every day we worked together I knew it would be a good night,” remembered Donovan’s co-worker Clifford Hendrickson on his obituary page. “He was special, and I will miss him greatly.”
Visitation is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 29, from 3-7 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home, 411 Old Town Road, East Setauket. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 10:45 a.m. at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 429 Route 25A, Setauket.
In addition to his wife and their two children, Donovan is also survived by his mother, Patricia, and many other beloved family members.
