Community rally to be held at Babylon train station demanding more police presence

|

State Assemblyman Mike LiPetri isn’t satisfied with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s promise to add increased police patrol at the Babylon Long Island Rail Road station.

So much so, that the state lawmaker is organizing a community rally on Friday, May 10, at 6 p.m. at the station to demand a permanent police presence at the transit hub.

Earlier this year, LiPetri and state Senator Phil Boyle wrote joint letters requesting more law enforcement in the area. In January, MTA officials said more police officers would be added at the train stop, according to a News 12 report.

Months after the response, the state lawmakers feel enough isn’t being done.

“There have been countless reports of individuals being harassed, threatened, and intimidated– including students from nearby schools,” LiPetri wrote in an email Monday. “After numerous meetings, letters, and phone calls, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has failed to show a willingness to adequately address this problem.”

The MTA wasn’t readily available to comment on the planned rally.
