Connetquot grad makes U.S. national cheer team

|

Go Joe, go!

Connetquot alum Joseph Apisa — already a three-time national cheerleading champion with the University of South Florida — has been named to USA Cheer’s 2024 National Coed Premier Team. He was one of 32 men and women selected to the team from colleges across the country.

“As a proud Connetquot alumni, I thank my school community for always supporting and helping me throughout the years,” Apisa said in a recent Facebook post. “I’m happy to announce that I’ve made the USA national cheer team!”

What this means is that Apisa will compete for his country at the 2024 ICU World Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, April 24-28. Teams representing nations from across the globe will compete.

Apisa graduated from Connetquot in 2020. In each of his first three years at South Florida, the Bulls coed cheer team has captured the national title. Kentucky is the only other cheer program to win three straight national crowns.

Members of the national team are fundraising to help offset the costs of uniforms, training, travel and meals. Apisa, alone, has raised $1,488 of his individual $3,000 goal.
