Connetquot High School’s campus was transformed into a sea of red, white, and blue for its second annual Flags of Honor ceremony. The initiative invited community members to purchase American flags in tribute to veterans, raising an impressive $2,400 for local veterans’ charities.
The school hosted performances by the Connetquot High School wind ensemble, while students Elizabeth Smith, Tessa Dolinger, Hailey Priemer and Samantha DeLuca delivered a heartfelt rendition of “God Bless America.”
Additionally, student Nicholas Marotta delivered a poignant Veterans Day address during the Nov. 9 event. The ceremony was among several held at Connetquot schools to commemorate Veterans Day.
The funds raised were distributed to two noteworthy causes – Paws of War, an organization providing veterans with service dogs rescued from kill shelters, and the Specialist Matthew Baylis Memorial Fund, which offers scholarships to veterans or their children who require financial assistance with college tuition or trade school expenses.
Students Ashley Merz and Devin Elster, along with Assistant Principal Lauren Neckinmong, presented recognitions for the guests of honor.
