Cops, highway workers save ducklings from Lindenhurst storm drain

The call came in and Suffolk police officers and town Highway Department workers sprang into action Friday, rescuing a family of ducklings from a storm drain in Lindenhurst.

A passerby dailed 911 about 7:15 a.m., after noticing a mother duck in distress, according to police

Her babies had marched into a storm drain at South 15th Street and West Hoffman Avenue in the village. There, responding officers notified the department’s Emergency Service Section, as well as the highway department for help, police said.

Within minutes, highway workers had removed the grate and Emergency Service Section Officer James Brucculeri climbed into the drain, scooping out six ducklings.

The ducklings were then reunited with their mother and walked off, police said.
