Danfords Marina temporarily closes for infrastructure improvements

The views are going to be quite a bit different this summer Down Port.

For the first time in recent memory, the slips at Danfords Marina will sit largely empty. The marquee dock in Port Jefferson Harbor is undergoing a major reconstruction project for the 2026 season, officials confirmed.

However, Greater Long Island has learned that some slips will remain open on a limited basis, and the fuel dock will continue operating throughout this season.

While the scaled-back operations mean many boaters will need to find alternative dockage, parts of the marina will still be active.

Here’s a breakdown of what’s happening — and what it means for the village waterfront this season.

The Marina Rebuild

The project is a complete redevelopment. Management said the docks are being replaced to modernize the utility systems and the physical layout of the slips.

The goal is to bring the marina up to current standards for both transient and seasonal boaters.

The marina will remain mostly closed through the end of the year, with a scheduled reopening in time for the 2027 boating season. Meanwhile, boaters are being directed to the Port Jefferson Village Marina or the local yacht club, though slip availability in the harbor is expected to be tight as temperatures outside rise.

What remains open

The construction is limited to the water, so the land-side operations of the Danfords resort are unaffected:

  • Dining: Black Pearl Seafood Chophouse and the outdoor terrace will stay open. The restaurant last year underwent its own refresh under new management and continues to serve as a primary waterfront dining spot.
  • The Hotel & Spa: The resort is still booking overnight stays and spa appointments.
  • Events: Scheduled weddings and events are proceeding as planned, though the backdrop of the harbor will look a bit more industrial than usual while dock work is underway.

A quieter harbor

The absence of over 100 slips at the center of the village will likely alter the usual traffic patterns in Port Jeff.

Typically a hub for transient boaters from across the Sound, the village may feel a bit quieter on summer weekends without the usual influx of maritime visitors parking at the docks.
