Dashcam footage captures plane landing on Southern State Parkway

|

A small, single-engine plane had to make an emergency landing Tuesday morning on its return route to Republic Airport, crashing on the Southern State Parkway in East Farmingdale, New York State Police said.

The plane, a Cherokee Archer, was carrying two people when it experienced engine failure, leading to the dire situation. Miraculously, the plane landed safely on the right shoulder of Southern State Parkway, eastbound by Exit 33.

New York State Police said they were notified at approximately 11:45 a.m. of the crash. Fortunately, no one was injured on the ground.

The plane’s crew — Anthony Q. Lanni, age 24, of the Bronx, and Benson V. Mathew, age 42, of Hicksville — were transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

A Bay Shore resident, Jason Campbell, captured the crash via his car’s dashcam and shared it with News 12. You can watch it below.

The authorities, including the State Police, FAA, and NTSB, are currently investigating this incident.

According to Newsday, this was at least the third plane crash around Republic Airport since 2022. The last one occurred in March, resulting in a deadly crash landing near North Lindenhurst.
