Druthers Coffee opens in the heart of Stony Brook, steps away from SBU

|

A new coffee shop for Stony Brook to call its own.

That’s Druthers Coffee, the area’s new spot for caffeinated beverages and baked treats.

Druthers opened this month at 1113 North Country Road in the new Stony Brook Square development, right across the street from Stony Brook University and the LIRR station.

Kathryne Piazzola, a former Stony Brook Univerity employee, teamed up with her husband Kevin Phieffer, son Zachary Russell, and son-in-law Michael Buchholz for this endeavor.

“It’s been great!” said Russell on the opening of Druthers. “We’ve had such an enthusiastic response from the community, and are so grateful for all the support we’ve gotten so far.”

The team offers a mix of coffees, espresso drinks, tea, house-baked goods, as well as breakfast and lunch fare.

“We’re going to have drip coffee, single-origin coffees on rotating on a monthly basis, and espresso-based drinks cappuccinos and lattes,” Russell previously told GreaterPortJeff. “We’re also going to have fun, seasonal special drinks too.”

For now, the shop is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on weekends from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. GreaterPortJeff was told expanded hours are in the works for the near future.
