This feathery mother breathed a sigh of relief on Mother’s Day.
A mother duck saw her seven ducklings drop into a storm drain and become entrapped behind Our Lady of Grace Church in West Babylon on Sunday.
First Precinct officers responded to the rear of the building at approximately 5:15 p.m. after a 911 call came in reporting that the baby ducks were in trouble.
After notifying the Emergency Service Section, Police Officer Mark Collins scooped the ducklings out using a large net. As their mother waited close by, the ducklings were rescued and reunited to her.
Out of the seven, one duckling appeared to be injured and was taken to a local animal hospital for treatment.
