A local carpenter’s past allegedly caught up with him Thursday when East Hampton Town Police nabbed him for the repeated sexual abuse of a 13-year-old child more than three years ago.
Carlos Fidel Gutama, 52, was taken into custody after a Child Protective Services worker flagged the abuse, triggering a police investigation that unearthed a series of crimes from back in November 2022.
Gutama, employed with Guerrero’s Carpentry in Sag Harbor, faces two counts of second-degree sexual abuse. He’s also charged with endangering the welfare of a child. Following his arrest, the East Hampton man was expected to be arraigned in court on Thursday.
Police brace for more victims
Detectives are now digging into Gutama’s history. Authorities are calling on anyone who believes they were a victim of Gutama to contact the East Hampton Town Police Department at 631.537.7575.
