|

It may not be Beijing, but it’s still pretty, pretty good.

East Islip High School figure skater Vanessa Rossa competed at the Empire State Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York, this month, and brought home a gold medal and a bronze medal.

Held Feb. 3-6, the Empire State Winter Games is the largest multi-sport amateur athletic winter sporting event in North America.

Rossa earned gold competing in the Pre-Juvenile Girls Excel level, and captured bronze in Synchronized Skating in the Open Juvenile level with Team Rinx. All of the figure skating competitions took place in the Lake Placid Olympic Center.

The Empire State Winter Games are held annually in Lake Placid. Most of the competitions take place in the venues used during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
