East Neck rehab center hosts fundraiser, gives away pies to help orphans

|

East Neck Nursing and Rehabilitation Center has found a way to give back to an employee who died tragically.

Back in 2013, East Neck’s Jennifer Suydam, of West Babylon, was killed in a car accident leaving behind her two 9 and 7-year-old daughters.

This year, tragedy struck again when the children’s father passed away in October. The children, Angelina and Giannaare now being taking care of by their grandmother.

“This holiday season they had a hard time getting gifts [for the kids]” said Katie Powers of East Neck.

To support them,  the center is hosting a first-annual Holiday Cheer Pie Grab and Go fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 21.

From 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., there will be a Chinese auction, caroling, dessert bar, and a hot chocolate buffet.

And there will be great for everyone who donates.

“Everyone that comes and participates in the Chinse auction will leave with a warm pie,” said Powers.

All proceeds will go toward helping the family.

So far, the organization has raised $900. According to Powers, the goal is to raise money well into the thousands.

The facility is located at 134 Great East Neck Road.
