Bedell Cellars Releases 2022 Viognier

Bedell Cellars, recognized as the premier winery of the North Fork of Long Island, has released the 2022 Viognier. The Viognier grape has rich and storied history that dates back centuries. While its precise origins are not clear, Viognier is believed to have originated in the Rhône Valley of France. It was first planted at Bedell in 1990 and was one of the first plantings of this variety on the East Coast. The vine’s success in our region can be attributed, in part, to is adaptability to the well-drained soil and mild, maritime climate. The nose of the 2022 Viognier is captivating, aromatic, seductive and exotic. Intense floral notes dominate, with enticing aromas of jasmine, orange blossom and honeysuckle. The delicate floral scents are accompanied by vibrant fruity aromas such as ripe peaches, apricots and honeydew melon. The 2022 Viognier is crispy yet luscious, offering a delightful combination of texture, body and vibrant flavors. The tropical notes encountered on the nose continue to charm the palate, contributing to the wine’s exotic character. The wine exhibits a pleasant hint of sweetness, perfectly balanced by refreshing acidity. Floral and fruity notes persist, complemented by a touch of saline minerality. The finish is bright and aromatic, with a gentle, natural, mouthwatering acidity that enhances the overall balance and harmony of the wine. The Viognier’s aromatic character makes it a versatile white wine that pairs well with a variety of dishes including Peconic Bay scallops, buttery lobster, grilled poultry and creamy pasta. Its aromatic haromize well with a variety of soft, creamy cheeses such as Brie, Camembert or fresh goat cheese. The 2022 Viognier is 100% Viognier, 12% alcohol by volume, wild fermented and certified sustainable through LISW. The bottle costs $20 and can be purchased at the winery.

Bedell Cellars is a certified sustainable, family-owned estate, making some of the most critically acclaimed wines on the North Fork of Long Island. Bedell Cellar is one of the only vineyards in the world fermenting with 100% naturally occurring indigenous yeasts. They have fermented over 50 small batches of wine and have produced over 34 vintages. All wines are hand crafted on their estate and the journey from vine to bottle is consistent with ancient winemaking traditions.
