The Patchogue River Christmas Boat Parade returns Sunday, Nov. 23, with the theme “An American Christmas.”
The celebration marks the 29th annual lighting of the river, a tradition that brings thousands of spectators to Patchogue’s waterfront.
The parade begins at 5 p.m. sharp, and early arrival is encouraged for the best viewing spots.
Free public viewing areas include Sandspit Park (Davis Park Ferry Terminal) and the Fire Island National Seashore Watch Hill terminal.
Visitors can also watch from Patchogue’s waterfront restaurants, including Drift 82, The Oar, The Sandbar, and Harbor Crab, many of which will be open for parade-night dining and drink specials.
Preview night

On Saturday, Nov. 22, the public can get a sneak peek during the boat preview and voting event from 5 to 9 p.m. at Harbor Crab and The Sandbar, connected by the H₂O Water Taxi, which will be offering free rides between marinas.
Guests can cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award before the main parade on Sunday.
Music and theme

This year’s theme, “An American Christmas,” celebrates the upcoming 250th birthday of the United States.
Spectators are encouraged to tune in to WUSB 90.1 FM, which will broadcast festive and patriotic songs as the illuminated boats make their way down the river.
A local legacy

What began roughly 30 years ago with a few boats gathered near The Oar steak and seafood restaurant has grown into one of Long Island’s most anticipated holiday traditions.
The event is organized each year by the Patchogue Riverfront Committee and supported by local businesses and volunteers.
