Lane closures on causeway’s Fire Island Inlet Bridge, June 16 – June 30

|

The state is warning motorists to expect single-lane, alternating travel operations on the Robert Moses Causeway Fire Island Inlet Bridge starting Thursday, June 16, and running through June 30.

The traffic measures will run from 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, to allow for bridge safety inspections “to help assure the safe operation of the more than 50-year-old Fire Island Inlet Bridge,” according to the state DOT.

Work zone speed limits will be posted at 2o mph.

To explain, southbound motorists will be stopped in order for northbound motorists to travel across the bridge and causeway, and then the sides will switch.

Emergency vehicles will have access to the single lane at all times, if need be.

Inclement weather could cause the work to last longer than expected.

The main channel of Fire Island Inlet will remain open to mariners.
