Within just a few weeks, the national chain Family Dollar has opened two new stores, one each in Bellport and downtown Patchogue.
The Patchogue store is actually a move, with an older, smaller Family Dollar having first operated on South Ocean Avenue. The new space at East Main Street and Maple Avenue is larger and more prominent.
“This was a great opportunity for Family Dollar to move into a better position and have an even stronger presence in Patchogue,” said Christopher Nicholson of Genesis Real Estate Advisors, who represents Family Dollar locally.
“Everything is brand-new” in the 10,000 square foot space, which is 2,000 square feet larger than on South Ocean, he said.
The new Family Dollar opened on Monday, Aug. 7.
Also, last month, a Family Dollar opened 3 and 1/2 miles to the east — at Miracle Plaza on Montauk Highway near Station Road in Bellport.
The long-neglected plaza is also being rehabbed by its new owners.
Former tenant Holla Dollar having since settled to the west on Montauk Highway in Bellport.
“Family Dollar was excited to go to Bellport,” said Nicholson. “The customer base was all right there.”
Back in Patchogue, Dollar King at 90 East Main Street closed earlier this year and is being subdivided.
A sign outside indicates a juice bar called Nole Cafe is being planned.
