First-ever ice skating on Main Street coming to downtown Smithtown

|

Next month, you’ll have the opportunity to lace up your skates and kick off the holiday season with Smithtown’s inaugural Ice Skating on Main Street event.

On Dec. 4 from 2-7 p.m., folks can ice skate right on Main Street outside the Fresh Market Shopping Center, as well as partake in other holiday festivities.

“We go big or go home, nothing in between,” said Barbara Franco, the executive director of the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce. “If it’s successful and people love it, we’ll bring it back next year if we can.”

Franco said the event will hopefully bring back some kind of normalcy and business to the downtown restaurants and shops.

There is no fee to enter the event area, only for the skating portion.

Spots are limited for ice-skating and people are encouraged to reserve their half-hour skate time.

It’s $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years old. Prices include the skate rental.

For those not looking to ice skate, Franco said there will be photos with Santa Claus, a few food trucks for some great eats, and holiday carolers.

The chamber will also be collecting unwrapped toys to benefit Toys for Tots.

“It should be a really great day for everyone, we’re very excited to do this and everyone is volunteering and pitching in,” Franco said. “We’re happy to share this with our community and bring people to downtown Smithtown and the Village of the Branch.”
